Prof Katibi I.A graduated from Ahmadu Bello University medical school with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree. He was also awarded the degree of Masters in Business Administration (MBA) of the University of Ilorin in 1998. He subsequently obtained a Doctorate degree from the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom, after which he attended University of Kwazulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa for further education in Medical Research and Ethics. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Fellowship on Ethics on global medical research of the Harvard University, Boston, United States. 

He underwent postgraduate residency training of both the National and West African Postgraduate Medical Colleges at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) and University College hospital, Ibadan leading to the conferment of the Fellowship award of the West African College of Physicians. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management Consultant.

Prof Katibi was appointed Lecturer I in 1999 and had since risen through the ranks to become a Professor of Medicine in 2011. He is an Honorary Consultant Physician/Cardiologist to UITH where he was once the chairman of the Research and Ethics Committee. He once served as the head, Department of Medicine, University of Ilorin and University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. He was formerly the Research Manager for the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ilorin. Prof Katibi’s famous Professorial Inaugural lecture was titled “The choice is yours but the burden is ours” and delivered in March 2013. 
He was appointed an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow in University of Glasgow, UK in 2003 and he is also a Fellow of the International Society for the Epidemiology and Prevention of Cardiovascular diseases. Prof Katibi was formerly the National Treasurer of the Nigerian Medical Association in 2000 and was on her National Executive Council for well over a decade.  

Prof Katibi has won several grants/awards/Fellowships with which he has pioneered the establishment of the first electronic database of normal electrocardiogram in any Black African population worldwide. Notable among these are Commonwealth University academic staff Fellowship, World Heart Federation Fellowship, University of Ilorin and University of Glasgow research grants. He has collaborated with researchers across the globe in his landmark contribution to the field of world comparative electrocardiogram between Nigerian, British, Chinese and Asian populations. 

He has over sixty publications in local and international peer-refereed journals, including contributions to textbooks. He was formerly on the editorial board of Nigerian Medical Journal and Nigerian Journal of Medicine aside from being a peer reviewer to about 10 local and international journals.
Prof Katibi is currently the Chairman, Board of Survey; Chairman, Board of Health and Chairman, Board of Eatery of the University of Ilorin.

He is happily married and blessed with very good and obedient children.
